Littelfuse: Short Circuit Current Ratings
Each component in an industrial control panel must be properly applied for safe and reliable operation. The application requirements for each component are often quite complex and unique to the component, resulting in erroneous interpretation, leading to improper use of the component. We will review some of the most common misapplications of components within the panel. UL 508 switches Listed as a “manual motor controller” are designed to be used for the on/off or manual motor controller function to meet NEC requirements in Article 430, Part VII.
A Control Circuit Device regulates and manages the operation of an electrical circuit by turning on or off the circuit. The control device regulates or limits the condition within the circuit by controlling the voltage and current. Examples of control circuit devices used are switches, solenoids, and relays. Noark is a reliable manufacturer of high-quality circuit control devices used in a wide range of industrial and motor applications. There’s a lot of buzz around Industry 4.0 right now, and for good reason. With the goal of creating “smarter” factories where all digital and physical assets are connected using artificial intelligence (AI), the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), cloud computing, robotics and other technologies, Industry 4.0 helps create more flexible, responsive and interconnected factories.
Machines and appliances used in the food processing industry are continuously exposed to dirt and moisture. The operation of these machines must be reliable, safe, and efficient. Besides the demanding conditions under which the machines must operate, hygiene and safety play an important role. Machines must meet strict food safety certification standards. As a result, the control panel must be designed to withstand frequent and thorough cleaning, often under high pressure.
Selecting wire and cable today can be a very different experience than in the past. More things are wired and connected than ever before. Wire and cable, depending on its application, was previously more of a commodity purchase. However, Industry 4.0, increased automation, and the criticality of a well-wired facility magnify the importance of wire and cable selection.
Much of the conversation about industrial enclosures in food production facilities is about protecting the electronics that power the actual food production sequence. While these enclosures are without doubt a mission-critical element of a healthy industrial automation framework, there are a variety of other applications where food-grade industrial enclosures help drive efficient and productive workflows.

This webinar presented by Beth Lessard and Keith Cordero will be highlighting three Panduit solutions that will optimize network equipment and cabling to ensure that your spaces are efficiently and properly managed to support ever-evolving business needs of today and beyond. Products that will be featured include PanZone TrueEdge Wall Mount Enclsoure, Cable Managers, and Adjustable Depth 4-Post Rack.

The Siemens SIMOVAC medium-voltage non-arc-resistant and SIMOVAC-AR arc-resistant controllers have a modular design incorporating up to two 12SVC400 (400 A) controllers, housed in a freestanding sheet steel enclosure. Each controller is UL 347 class E2, equipped with three current-limiting fuses, a non-load-break isolating switch, and a fixed-mounted vacuum contactor (plug-in type optional for 12SVC400). The enclosure is designed for front access, allowing the equipment to be located with the rear of the equipment close to a non-combustible wall.
