Siemens HB3-Compact generator circuit-breaker
With its HB3-Compact generator circuit-breaker, Siemens provides a unique generator circuit breaker solution to the most challenging constraints. Offering more customization options, the generator circuit-breaker can be mounted either vertically or horizontally, and its phase-to phase spacing and phase height axis can be adjusted to match perfectly to the existing busbar connection points. The circuit-breaker can also be fitted with integrated line disconnecting switch and earth disconnecting switch on generator side and/or on transformer side. These features make it especially valuable for retrofit applications in power plants, where the highest security of supply is crucial, and space is limited due to existing installations.
With the increasing percentage of renewable power, reliable protection technology is needed to handle higher voltages resulting from temporary higher power infeed, for example. Generator circuit-breakers are key components for improving the reliability and availability of power plants. They protect equipment such as generators and transformers against overload or short circuiting by disconnecting and connecting them from and to the grid.
With its adaptable design and installation, the new HB3-Compact model offers power plant operators the greatest degree of flexibility when designing a new plant or replacing outdated equipment. It has a simplified footprint, which facilitates the designing and dimensioning of the switchgear. The supporting frame design can be customized, meaning the phases can be fitted in one common or an individual frame design to enable splitting of the phases, for example when installing in different rooms.
Besides this flexibility in design, HB3-C also supports plant operators in saving costs during project implementation and operation. Thanks to the unit’s compact size, its transport, erection and commissioning are simplified and outage times for the installation of a new circuit-breaker can be kept to a minimum. The maintenance-free vacuum switching technology used in the switchgears eliminates the need for gas handling, guarantees minimum maintenance costs and increases the recycling rate of the HB3 systems. The HB3-C is part of the Siemens Blue Portfolio, combining high-tech performance with environmentally safe materials and work procedures.

With the motor starters of the MOTUS C14 series from Wöhner, short circuits become less scary. If an error occurs, the electronics switch off the motor within a maximum of 10 microseconds. This means that the MOTUS C14 reacts faster than any fuse and this with a low I2t value. By comparison, the reaction time of a conventional fuse-link is about 2,000 microseconds. With a circuit breaker, the switch-off time in case of a fault is even 5,000 microseconds.
Surges and voltage transients are a major cause of expensive electronic equipment failure and business disruption. Damage may result in the loss of capital outlays, such as computers and communications equipment, as well as consequential loss of revenue and profits due to unscheduled system down-time. nVent ERICO offers multiple series of surge suppressors that provide economical and reliable protection from voltage transients on power distribution systems.
AutomationDirect has added E-T-A REX modular electronic circuit protectors to their selection of circuit protection devices. These protectors safeguard electrical circuits from overcurrent, short circuits, and other faults. Featuring a modular design, individual protection modules can be combined to meet specific circuit protection requirements, allowing for flexible configurations and easy installation.
Enclosures are widely used to house electrical or electronic equipment along with switches, knobs and displays while providing a safe installation that prevents electrical shock to equipment users and protects the contents from the environment. Today’s enclosures are designed with features and materials that allow safe and protective use in hazardous areas, but also designed to be pleasing to the eye.
Phoenix Contact is extending its M17 to M40 PRO series of circular connectors with new designs: The device and coupler connectors with male and female contacts in the size M23 now provide you with greater flexibility in device connections and in system cabling. They are compatible with both the standard and the ONECLICK fast-locking system. For signal transmission, versions with 6- to 19-positions are available for currents up to 20 A and voltages up to 300 V.

Siemens: SIMOVAC Non-Arc-Resistant and SIMOVAC-AR Arc-Resistant Motor Controllers
The Siemens SIMOVAC medium-voltage non-arc-resistant and SIMOVAC-ARarc-resistant controllers have a modular design incorporating up to two 12SVC400 (400 A) controllers, housed in a freestanding sheet steel enclosure. Each controller is UL 347 class E2, equipped with three current-limiting fuses, a non-load-break isolating switch, and a fixed-mounted vacuum contactor (plug-in type optional for 12SVC400). The enclosure is designed for front access, allowing the equipment to be located with the rear of the equipment close to a non-combustible wall.
