Pepperl+Fuchs: Increased Performance with the BTC22 Industrial Box Thin Client

With the BTC22, Pepperl+Fuchs introduces a new, cutting-edge industrial box thin client.

The successor of the well-known and proven BTC12 meets all the requirements of an industrial thin client and complements the existing BTC portfolio. With a dust-tight aluminum housing, no moving parts and a fanless design, the BTC22 is optimized for industrial use in 24/7 operation. In addition, the latest industrial box thin client offers modern software. It comes with pre-installed VisuNet RM Shell 6 firmware based on Microsoft Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021. Together with extensive hardware interfaces, the BTC22 is ready for the future. 

Rugged Design for Process Industries

Like its predecessor, the BTC22 comes in an extremely robust and dust-resistant IP4x housing. Made of aluminum, it can withstand even the challenging environment conditions in process industries. Due to its compact and solid design, the BTC22 industrial box thin client offers maximum installation flexibility: place it on a desk, mount it on the wall, or store it in cabinets, drawers, and containers.

The BTC features passive cooling and several cooling fins that prevent the device from overheating. In addition, all connectors can be mechanically secured so that the BTC22 can withstand shocks and vibrations. With operating temperatures of 0 °C … +55 °C, the BTC22 opens up flexible application possibilities. An extended temperature version for ranges of –20 °C … +60 °C will be available in the future.

Future-Oriented Thin Client Technology

The latest industrial box thin client from Pepperl+Fuchs is equipped with modern interface technology. The BTC22 has two DisplayPort interfaces that support Ultra HD monitors with 4K resolution at 60 Hz. This provides an optimal overview of your processes. Moreover, the BTC22 offers you three dedicated Gigabit Ethernet ports for network redundancy, a USB-C port for modern peripheral devices, and extensive 16–28 V DC power connections for office and industrial applications. With its powerful processor and up to 16 GB DDR4 RAM, the BTC22 stands for increased performance and state-of-the-art thin client solutions.

Pre-installed VisuNet RM Shell 6

VisuNet RM Shell 6 is the latest generation firmware for thin clients from Pepperl+Fuchs.

To simplify the configuration and setup of the BTCs, the VisuNet RM Shell 6 firmware is already pre-installed and pre-configured for various control systems. This means that the new box thin client can be put into operation quickly and easily. The latest generation of VisuNet RM Shell is based on Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, which includes long-term security updates from Microsoft. In addition, VisuNet RM Shell offers integrated security mechanisms that reliably protect the system against malware and viruses.

The VisuNet RM Shell firmware is available for every VisuNet thin client device from Pepperl+Fuchs. It enables a complete thin client solution for process industries—from the BTCs in the control room to remote monitors in Zone 1/21. In combination with the VisuNet Control Center add-on software, plant operators can configure, monitor, and efficiently manage all devices from a central point.
