UL Solutions: First Certifications Issued Under AI Safety Testing Service for AI-Enabled Products

UL Solutions Issues First Certifications Under AI Safety Testing Service for AI-Enabled Products

The certifications signal growing industry demand for independently validated AI systems capable of safely managing complex energy, power, cooling and operations at scale.

UL Solutions Inc has announced the first certifications for products powered by artificial intelligence (AI) under its AI safety certification program, marking a key milestone in independently confirming trustworthy AI for complex, mission-critical environments.

These certifications are the first evaluations completed globally under UL 3115, the Outline of Investigation for the Safety of AI-Based Products. They were awarded to the Qcells Energy Management System (EMS) and the Omniconn Platform 4.0 smart building solution after comprehensive assessments confirmed the robustness, reliability, transparency and accountability of their autonomous AI systems. The assessments also verified that the systems include safeguards to preserve essential human oversight as operations become increasingly autonomous.

“As AI begins to operate in real-world systems, independent safety certification is essential to public trust,” said Jennifer Scanlon, president and CEO of UL Solutions. “These certifications establish a new benchmark for trustworthy, responsibly managed AI in critical infrastructure.”

Qcells earned certification from UL Solutions for an AI-based optimization agent in its data center Energy Management System, which continuously analyzes multiple conditions to forecast energy generation, grid conditions and demand, to coordinate on-site resources and to provide operators with actionable insights while keeping humans in control. UL Solutions assessed the technology and confirmed that it remains reliable, transparent and well-governed as operations become more autonomous.

“This certification shows that human and agent energy optimization collaboration can be safe and is ready for data center operations,” said Dr. Youngchoon Park, president of the Grid and Energy Services Business at Qcells. “It offers a credible path to scale while demonstrating our commitment to creating resilient, reliable, AI-enabled platforms.”

Omniconn has completed UL 3115 certification for Omniconn Platform 4.0, a unified smart building solution, recognizing its use of responsible AI in building operations. The platform integrates IoT devices, building automation and other systems into a single operational core that enables centralized monitoring, predictive analytics and automated controls to improve energy efficiency, cooling performance, safety and sustainability outcomes.

“At Omniconn, our focus has always been on helping customers run smarter, more efficient buildings without losing visibility or control,” said Ibrahim Lari, chairman of Omniconn. “This certification from UL Solutions reinforces that our platform is built with the right safeguards in place and gives customers greater confidence as they adopt AI-driven building operations.”

These certifications are expected to guide broader industry adoption as organizations across sectors increasingly rely on autonomous AI to manage complex energy, power, cooling and building systems. By demonstrating alignment with UL 3115, both companies have shown that AI-enabled systems can meet strict requirements without compromising operational reliability or regulatory readiness.
