ABB: ACS580, ACH580 and ACQ580 IP66 / UL Type 4X Drives Expand Portfolio for Demanding Environments

June 1, 2026
ABB has extended its all-compatible drive portfolio with the introduction of IP66 / UL Type 4X rated variants across its ACS580 General Purpose, ACH580 HVACR, and ACQ580 Water & Wastewater drive families.
Purpose-built for the most demanding operating environments, the new drives can withstand extreme rain, heat, cold, salt spray, hosing down, dust, cleaning agents and humidity, delivering robust, reliable and efficient motor control – with energy savings typically reaching 25% – where conventional drives would fall short.
The expansion addresses growing demand for high-performance drives capable of operating in harsh conditions without the need for additional protective enclosures, helping to reduce installation complexity, system footprint and total cost of ownership across several industries and applications.
“The introduction of these IP66 / UL Type 4X variants marks a significant step forward in making efficiency and productivity accessible across a much wider range of environments and industrial demands,” said Prachi Nayak, Regional Product Market Manager Drive Products, ABB. “These drives are built to perform where conditions are toughest, and we’re proud to be extending the reach of our all-compatible portfolio to meet that challenge.”

The ACS580 drives are suited to food & beverage and agricultural environments where washdown, chemical exposure and stringent hygiene standards are routine, covering applications such as dairy, meat processing, bakery and aquaculture. The ACQ580 variants offer exceptional corrosion resistance for water and wastewater infrastructure, including pump stations, clarifiers and dosing systems, where caustic chemicals and gases are commonplace. The ACH580 drives extend the same level of protection to HVACR applications, making them a natural fit for rooftop air handlers, cooling towers, outdoor pump skids and exterior supply and exhaust fans.
An optional Bluetooth control panel enables seamless connectivity, commissioning and monitoring through ABB’s Drivetune and Drive Composer applications, with the added safety benefit of keeping personnel outside the arc flash boundary during live work. The drives also feature an optimized DC choke, a built-in C2 EMC filter and two option slots for fieldbus adapters and additional I/Os, providing system integrators with the flexibility to tailor connectivity to specific application requirements.

With the addition of IP66 / UL Type 4X variants to the ACS580, ACH580 and ACQ580 families, ABB further strengthens its all-compatible drive platform, offering customers a cohesive, application-optimized portfolio that now spans multiple environmental ratings and installation demands. The new drives are available in a broad selection of power ratings, providing extensive coverage across key applications and markets.
