Weidmuller: Varitector PU AC Series Surge Protection

Weidmuller Inc. would like to introduce the VARITECTOR PU AC. Weidmuller is offering a new extensive family of surge protection that is perfectly tailored for use in power systems, whether in machinery, industrial plants, process or railway installations.

The powerful and compact VPU AC I and II combi arresters for power feed-in and power distribution enable back-up fuseless operation up to 315 Ampere main fuse value. A specially developed separation mechanism enables innovative and cost-effective use without an additional back-up fuse before the surge protection. VARITECTOR PU AC is certified according to the international IEC/EN standards as well as UL Standard 1449 Ed.4, therefore it is guaranteed for standard-compliant, worldwide use. UL classification 1CA allows use in the most demanding application classes. The pluggable, self-monitoring surge protection modules are approved for all mains system types and are available in different versions; 1-, 2-, 3- or 4-pole, with or without remote signalling contact.

VPU type II surge protection protects low-voltage consumer installations including electronic devices against surge voltage that can occur as a result of atmospheric discharges (thunderstorms) or switching operations (transients).

Product variants VPU AC 3+1 and VPU AC 1+1 are fitted with N/PE surge protection arresters that optically indicate the status of the protective element and forward it via the remote signalling contact. Equipped with a leakage current power of 50 kA, the modules are available as 75 V, 150 V, 300 V, 350 V, 480 V, 750 V (35 kA) and 1,000 V (40 kA) versions, with or without remote signalling contact.

VARITECTOR PU AC impresses through its safe and simple application. The innovative locking mechanism of the modules guarantees reliable operation, even in harsh environmental conditions. The locking clip is designed so that it can be opened using just a screwdriver. This guarantees a high level of vibration resistance and increased protection in case of inappropriate handling by inexperienced people. The well-thought-out coding system prevents the surge protection arresters from getting mixed up. 1- to 4-pole surge protection modules as well as 1+1 and 3+1 versions are available. They are compatible with the following mains systems types: TN-C, TN-S, TT and IT. The portable test unit V-TEST II is intuitive to operate and enables functional testing of the different surge protection arresters as required by the standards.

With VARITECTOR, you will have access to an extended family of surge arresters. Our VARITECTOR PU AC line effectively reduce the interference coupling that can occur from transient surge voltages, even significantly below the limits prescribed by insulation co-ordination according to EN 60664-3 / DIN VDE 0110-3.
