DIMAAG-AI, Inc. and Toshiba International Corporation (TIC), a Toshiba America Inc. (TAI) Group Company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Toshiba Corporation (Toshiba), have recently announced a collaboration to develop next-generation energy storage solutions for AI infrastructure using Toshiba’s SCiB lithium titanium oxide (LTO) battery technology.

The collaboration combines Toshiba’s high-power SCiB LTO battery technology  with more than 100 million cells shipped since 2010 and over a decade of proven safety record and DIMAAG’s active-flow immersion-cooled battery architecture, designed to support continuous 10C charge and discharge cycling over a targeted 10+ years of service life. These features are designed to support applications such as load smoothing, low voltage ride through, backup power, demand response, grid stabilization, and evolving voltage requirements in a scalable architecture for AI data centers.

To address the broader power challenges created by large computational AI workloads, DIMAAG integrates the battery system with power conversion and real-time controls in its ZettaWatt Power Platform. DIMAAG’s ZettaWatt Power Platform is a modular grid-to-800 VDC architecture that combines power conversion, energy storage and real-time controls. The platform is designed to address evolving utility and ISO requirements. It meets ERCOT’s low-voltage ride-through requirements and smooths cyclic AI load fluctuations to less than 1% as seen by the grid, while providing backup power capability and demand response functionality. Multiple modular ZettaWatt Power Platforms can be deployed in parallel as campus capacity grows.

“Energy storage in an AI data center must do far more than bridge an outage. It must absorb rapid load swings, support grid ride-through, provide backup power and respond repeatedly without becoming a constraint on the system,” said Ian Wright, CTO of DIMAAG and Tesla co-founder. “Combining Toshiba’s established SCiB battery cell technology into DIMAAG’s active-flow immersion-cooled Zenius modules within the ZettaWatt Power Platform delivers differentiated performance for high-power, high-duty-cycle requirements of AI data centers.”

Under this collaboration, Toshiba supplies high power SCiB battery cells while DIMAAG designs, manufactures, and integrates the battery system into its ZettaWatt Power Platform. Toshiba’s high power SCiB cells were selected for this application based on several factors, including its capability to support continuous 10C charge and 10C discharge with an appropriately designed cooling system, over a targeted 10+ year service life, supported by Toshiba’s volume LTO production and long-term field experience.

“This collaboration demonstrates how Toshiba SCiB technology can support the next generation of AI infrastructure through continuous 10C charging and discharging capability, exceptional cycle life, and a proven safety track record.” said Greg Mack, Senior VP and GM of Power Electronics Division, Toshiba International Corporation.

Expected Benefits for AI Infrastructure Projects

  • Continuous 10C charge and discharge capability
  • 10+ year service life
  • Rapid response to dynamic AI workloads
  • Safety and reliability supported by over a decade of field experience
  • Scalable deployment across AI and mission-critical applications

The technologies developed through this collaboration complement existing SCiB-based power solutions and expand the range of applications that can benefit from Toshiba’s advanced battery technology.
