Toshiba: T300MV2 F4-OA Medium Voltage Drive Featuring an Industry-First Design for Reduced HVAC Demand and Operating Costs

September 8, 2026
Toshiba has recently announced the release of the T300MV2 F4-OA, a medium voltage adjustable speed drive that reduces facility cooling demand and overall operating costs.
The F4-OA is expected to produce up to 40% less heat loss compared to the typical heat loss generated by a standard medium voltage drive of equivalent horsepower. This drive’s design incorporates external ductwork that supplies filtered outdoor air to the inverter section, removing heat at the source to prevent it from entering the equipment room. By shifting the thermal load outside the facility, the F4-OA significantly reduces demand for indoor HVAC systems, resulting in:
- Lower energy consumption: Reduced facility cooling costs
- Reduced infrastructure requirements: Smaller HVAC systems for new installations
- Lower total cost of ownership: Long-term savings through improved motor and drive system efficiency
Engineered for Resilience
The T300MV2 F4-OA is a medium voltage adjustable speed drive that combines industry-proven power electronics with an innovative outdoor air-cooling design. Filtered outdoor air flows across isolated inverter heat sinks, transferring thermal energy into a controlled cooling loop that helps the drive maintain its stable operating temperatures. Critical power components remain fully enclosed within a dedicated cabinet, protecting them from outdoor contaminants while supporting long-term reliability.
“The T300MV2 F4-OA represents a strategic shift in how we manage thermal energy in high-horsepower applications,” said Bradley Engel, Senior Product Manager for Controls, Medium Voltage Drives, and Field Service. “By moving the thermal load outdoors, we are fundamentally changing how engineers design their equipment rooms and enabling levels of efficiency previously unavailable in this power class.”
Built for Extreme Operating Conditions
Designed for extreme operating conditions, the T300MV2 F4-OA features an inverter inlet temperature rating from –45°C to 50°C. The drive is available in Frame 4, supporting 3300 V and 4160 V applications with power ratings from 4,000 to 6,000 horsepower. Built for heavy-duty performance, it delivers 115% overload capability for 60 seconds every 20 minutes (110% for 6000 HP).
